The cross of Jesus Christ is a central symbol in Christianity and represents the crucifixion of Jesus and the sacrifice he made for the sins of humanity. It is a symbol of salvation, redemption, and atonement. God ingenious as He is thought of a way to bring man back to Himself into full fellowship with Him, after Adam decided to go his own way after being created by God for Adam to have fellowship with Him. He created man as much like Himself without being God, but we have that eternal being in that we are a spirit confined in a human body. Lucifer was a shining example of God’s creation. the highest angel that He ever made perfect in everything, a beautiful angel to behold but he let God down and rebelled and he had to leave Heaven because he grew proud and corrupted himself. There was no salvation for the now called devil and he was confined to earth along with the angels he took with him. The devil in all his coruption and never being able to go back to where he was , he thought has was equal to God and deserved worship but his own thought and sin deluded hin and he lost so much and was furious.
The crucifixion of Jesus is considered a central event in History, as it is believed that through his death and resurrection, Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity. We believe that Jesus’ death on the cross paid the penalty for human sin, making it possible for people to have eternal life and a restored relationship with God.
The cross is also a symbol of the love and sacrifice of God. We believe that God loved humanity so much that he sent his Son to die on the cross for our sins, and that this act demonstrates the depth of God’s love and commitment to humanity.
Additionally, the cross is also seen as a symbol of the victory of Jesus over death and sin. Christians believe that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, he defeated death and made it possible for believers to have eternal life. The cross is a symbol of the triumph of God over evil and sin.
Jesus willingly laid His life down for the Love of God sent Jesus to die in our place so that we could come into fellowship with Him again. The whole Christian faith centres around the cross because that was a marvelous work of God, something no-one expected God to do not even the Jews of the day. God wants us everyday to focus on the cross and lay our lives down and take up the cross and follow Jesus. Jesus was our example of self sacrifice and unselfish Love and obedience to Father God.
“Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (NIV) Isaiah 53
Jesus the Son of God and also the Son of Man identified Himself with us and was clothed in humanity although He was also God. It is a great mystery in such as the human mind cannot understand this. He carried all our infirmities, sins and iniquity that the Father God placed on Him so that we could have life. There on the cross he took upon himself all our burdens, our guilt, our shame, our pain, our sickness, our sorrow, our grief. As was said already, the human mind, can never fully comprehend all that transpired and all that was accomplished by this substitutionary death of Jesus. But let us bear in mind that Isaiah begins this chapter by warning us against unbelief. Who can believe our message.” So let us deliberately denounce unbelief. Let us not reject the message because it’s difficult for little puny, finite minds to comprehend the infinite nature of God’s love, mercy and wisdom. Let us be willing to believe. In the eternal will and counsel of God “it pleased the Lord,” it says, “to crush him.” That crushing burden came upon Jesus, our substitute, the Son of Man. The punishment for sin is eternal death and we have all sinned, but God found a way around this in that if we identify with Jesus and repent and turn from our sinful life we will find eternal Life in Jesus, and we will not have to go to the Final Judgement for sin which is eternal death and separation from God.
What Jesus did at the cross we will not fully understand but it was a lifesaver for those who come to Jesus and surrender their lives, this is process however which the Holy Spirit will help you with.
There’s a picture in the book of Lamentations which really speaks so vividly of of the suffering and punishment that Jesus took on the cross, and this is in Lamentations.
“Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look around and see. Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted on me, that the Lord brought on me in the day of his fierce anger? ‘From on high he sent fire, sent it down into my bones. He spread a net for my feet and turned me back. He made me desolate, faint all the day long. [Everyone of those phrases is exactly true of Jesus there on the cross.] My sins have been bound into a yoke; by his hands they were woven together. They have come upon my neck and the Lord has sapped my strength. He has handed me over to those I cannot withstand.’” (NIV)
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him [on Jesus] the iniquity [the rebellion] of us all.”
The root problem of the human race is self will, it’s going our own way. It’s not necessarily committing some dramatic sin like murder, or adultery, or stealing. But turning from God’s way, and going our own way, turning our back on God, doing our own thing, living by our own standards, pleasing ourselves, making ourselves the center of the universe,
